The Shadow Class Challenge

In June 2010, I will again offer my class on shadow work. It has been my experience that this class is best received by those who have had at least six months of shadow work prior to the class. Additionally this year, we are also offering a follow up class, Shadow Work for Leaders, Clergy, Adepts & Mystics in December.

How does one prepare for a class on shadow work?
  1. You start by first reading by Connie Zweig and Steve Wolf and working through the examples in each chapter.
  2. And if there is time, you also read by Robert A. Johnson and use his techniques to analyze your dreams.
  3. You keep a journal to track your dreams, daily thoughts and insights, plus your answers to the exercises from steps 1 and 2.
  4. You bring the journal to class with you.

The shadow work class is scheduled for Sunday, June 6th with the follow up class scheduled for December 5th. In my experience, those that prepare themselves ahead of time have a deeper understanding of the work involved and are able to make use of this understanding in ways they never would have imagined otherwise.

I do not currently have plans to offer this level of shadow work in 2011. Do not miss this opportunity to step up to the Work.

(Registration for Reflections' classes normally opens at around sixty days out to comply with PayPal refund restrictions.)

The Upgrade is Today

The upgrade will begin today, Monday Oct 18 at 5 pm. You will be able to access the site throughout most of the evening till 8 pm. At around 8, I will take down the web site so I can switch in the new version. This should take less than an hour. My plan is to have the site back online by 9 pm. If there is a problem, I will notify you via email and I will switch back to the old version.

Remember, do not post anything to the website (events, comments, forum entries, etc.) between 5 pm and 9 pm or it will be lost during the conversion process.

Thanks and wish me luck,

Tools of the Warrior

w/Katrina Messenger
Saturday, June 14, 2008
From 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

What does it mean to walk the path of a warrior? A warrior is one who shows up, stands on the edge of a blade and does what must be done. A warrior is one who is willing to walk the noble paths of compassion and intention. A warrior is not foolhardy, emotionless or cruel; she is grounded, present and aware. Grounded within the reality of her environment, present in the here and now, and aware of her perspective and limits. With an acceptance of the possible consequences, she acts.

This class will focus on the warrior as personified within Katrina Messenger’s fourfold path of artist, warrior, healer and steward.

True Love: A Practice for Awakening the Heart

Each year at Reflections, we study a book together. And in 2009, we have selected True Love: A Practice for Awakening the Heart by Thich Nhat Hanh. I have always enjoyed his books, each is a precious meditation on the gift of mindfulness.

Awakening the heart is a deep practice. Our heart chakras acts as our first connection outward to the world around us and for many of us, this connection has been wounded. And so we harden our hearts while at the same time we ponder why others seem so far away. Never imagining that we are the ones who have drifted slowly away from true intimacy and deep compassion.

As is our usual method, we will slow down to study this little book by spending a week on each of the 16 chapters. Starting on Sunday, February 1st, we will read chapter 1 every day for a week. (The schedule is below the cut.)

Join the Systeri of Reflections and begin your practice of True Love.

(If you purchase the book using the above link, you will help Katrina add to her growing library.)

Upcoming Web Site Updates

Early this week, I will begin the initial phases of the long process of upgrading the website to include the portal functions.

The first step involves upgrading the site to the current version of the drupal 5.x release -- and no, you do not need to understand this. But it involves, amongst other things, a change in the way we receive emails. You will need to re-subscribe to the school and/or staff groups once the site is updated. I will post instructions BEFORE I take the site down.

My plan is to minimize the period when the site is completely inaccessble. You and the public will be able to view the website as normal for most of the period. But I will need your help to make this a successful upgrade. I will send out an announcement a few hours before I plan to begin the upgrade. Once it starts you should not post or change anything or the posts/changes will be lost once I am finish with the upgrade. My pre-announcement will include what time you should be able to login again and resubscribe to receive emails.

If you have any questions, please post them in the comments to this post.

thanks

Web site is back up!

This note has two purposes.

1. To announce that the web site is back in service.
2. And if you can see this message, you do not have to sign up for email since you were converted successfully.

Welcome to Staff

We have a new area on the web site devoted to Staff! It should now appear as an option under My Groups and within new content for audience selection.

You can use this area to post updates and requests meant for staff only.

Working with the Dreamtime

moonWith Katrina Messenger
Sunday, April 19, 2009
From 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m.

Shamans, mystics and wisdom keepers of old relied on their dreams for direction and support. How does a modern pagan approach the dreamtime? How can we tap this ancient wisdom store, and learn and grow as a result?

If the Psyche is the realm of the spirit, then the Dreams are like messages in a bottle from this hidden realm. Dreams like Myths are composed and structured using an ancient symbolic language. We often refer to this language as the Language of Mystery. Instead of letters and words, this language uses images and symbols.

In this class, we will start by composing a personal dream-symbol to English dictionary. Beyond the personal and subjective interpretation however is the skill of objective translation where we encounter the universal, the archetypal ... i.e the realm of the gods themselves.

Bring a “disturbing” or “interesting” dream to work with during this class.
