Myth, Masks & Magick: A Mask Making Intensive

With Helena Dominic
Oct 19, 2008
From 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

Mask Making is one of the oldest arts known to humanity. Through masking, we are able to take on other personas and even interact with the spirits. In Africa, maskers perform for initiations, other rites of passage, funerals, and seasonal festivals. Maskers take on the identities of the spirits they perform, becoming something other than human, often acting as diviners, or dispensers of advice and social control, or even as Deity.

In this workshop, we will journey to see which spirits are needed to speak to us. We will then create masks to reflect those spirits, and then share the spirits and their messages in ceremony.

Mask creation is messy business! Either wear something you don’t mind getting creative in, or bring a t-shirt or smock to cover your clothes. We will be using rigid wrap, which is plaster embedded gauze. Bring rubber gloves if you have skin allergies or sensitivities – there is lyme in plaster. If you wear contacts, consider either wearing your glasses, or bring protective goggles.

Skills for Healers, Clergy & Teachers

with Katrina Messenger
Sunday, Jun 1, 2008
From 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

This course is primarily about boundaries and containers, and how to use these tools to create healing spaces and teachable moments. We will review the importance of having strong, flexible outer and inner boundaries, and how to use these boundaries to create an appropriate level of intimacy with our students, clients and patients.

We will discuss techniques to create various kinds of containers, including magical, healing and transformative. And we will also discuss topics such as ethics, privacy and discretion. And finally we will open the discussion up so that participants can share problems and concerns and get feedback and advice from the collective wisdom of all who have gathered.

This course is designed for people who have already made a commitment in their lives to the healing arts, the ministerial and priest/ess path, or teaching as a profession.

Tools of the Warrior

w/Katrina Messenger
Saturday, June 14, 2008
From 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

What does it mean to walk the path of a warrior? A warrior is one who shows up, stands on the edge of a blade and does what must be done. A warrior is one who is willing to walk the noble paths of compassion and intention. A warrior is not foolhardy, emotionless or cruel; she is grounded, present and aware. Grounded within the reality of her environment, present in the here and now, and aware of her perspective and limits. With an acceptance of the possible consequences, she acts.

This class will focus on the warrior as personified within Katrina Messenger’s fourfold path of artist, warrior, healer and steward.
