Price of Wisdom Series
The young goddess sees an uprooted huluppu tree floating in the Euphrates River, and saves it by plucking it from the river and planting it in her garden. She tends the tree and plans to use its wood for her marriage bed and her throne.
To her dismay, just as she is prepared to cut it down, she discovers that three creatures have taken up residence in the huluppu tree: The snake that can not be charmed took over the roots, the dark maid, Lilith, set up her house in the trunk, and the Anzu bird lived in the branches. Unable to rid the tree of these interlopers, Inanna calls for help.
The stories in this online series highlight that there is a price that must be paid for every blessing or gift. The price may be as simple as humility or gratitude, but it must be attended to in order to fully access the gift.
At a time where humanity has poisoned the land, air, and water of the all-giving earth, we need a reminder of our debt to Gaia. When we eat, drink, and breathe in the blessings of life, we incur a responsibility towards life itself.
