Between the Pillars of Belief and Disbelief
IvoWith Ivo Dominguez, Jr.
Sunday, October 10, 2010
From 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m.
As witches, magicians, and shamans of the modern era we are faced with the gift and the challenge of choice in what we believe. Belief is one of the great engines that drives the power of magick but we also know the danger of blind faith all too well. True believers of any system cannever truly know nor understand its workings but without some belief there is no efficacy. The literal interpretation of symbols, rituals, and myths is fraught with danger but so is the reductive interpretation that robs us of spirit and essence. The goal of this class is to encourage an informed subjectivity, a controlled belief, that allows us to find balance between the pillars of Belief and Disbelief.

Awakening Creativity Through Spiritual Practice
From the moment our first ancestors painted on the walls of the cave, art has been one of our sacred languages and a source of creative magic. Whether you are an artist seeking to deepen your practice, or a seeker wanting to include artistry as a component of spiritual exploration, this session will help participants to awaken the artist within. What to do if inspiration wanes? What are the myths we tell ourselves about being an artist? What changes need to be made in our lives to make time and space for art-making? How to foster shared inspiration in community?
We will explore our relationship with the Muses, the daughters of Zeus and Memory. Hesiod said, “for though a man has sorrow and grief in his soul, yet when the servant of the Muses sings, at once he forgets his dark thoughts and remembers not his troubles. Such is the holy gift of the Muses to men.” Who are the Muses, and how do we, as modern artists and pagans, work with these presences? How do we coax the Muse within to help feed our creative processes? The Muses represented a diverse range of sacred arts, so this workshop session should appeal to multiple disciplines of practice, for beginners as well as professional artists.
The Magick and Symbolism of Ancient Egypt
For nearly 3000 years, Ancient Egypt stood at the pinnacle of civilization. Its monuments, temples, tombs, and artifacts provide extensive and tantalizing clues as to the power of its people. No other nation in history has risen, fallen, and risen again in the way Egypt did during its considerable reign. Its religion, culture, technology, and magick left a lasting impression on societies that are considered to be part of the foundations of western societies, Greece and Rome. And today, over 2400 years since the last native Egyptian Pharaoh ruled, we are still fascinated by the mysteries and secrets of that ancient nation.
In this workshop we will explore the history, mythology, symbolism, magick and religion of Ancient Egypt. We will look at its temples, its tombs, its writings and its artifacts to catch a glimpse of the beliefs and ideas of this elder people. We will seek a balanced viewpoint between ‘Egyptians had intergalactic travel’ of the New Age fringe and ‘if it isn’t carved in stone it isn’t possible’ of orthodox Egyptology. In all of our explorations we will be seeking an answer to the questions ‘how does this affect magickal and spiritual practices today?’ and ‘how can I use this in my personal work and exploration?’
Magic of Manifestation
We are co-creators with the divine, and we can use our creative powers to manifest a meaningful and fulfilling life in the physical realm.
In this workshop, we will explore the theory and practice of manifesting what you need and desire in your life. We will discuss the principles and tools of magic, discover our individual symbol sets, playfully engage our Younger Self, and activate our creativity to craft a spell and ritual to manifest our intent in the world we live in.
Come with an open mind, a willing heart, and a playful sense of adventure. Manifestation is happening all around you, all the time.
Pouches, Potions, Poultices and Pillows: Using Herbs for Magic
We will talk about the theory as well as the practical in collecting, processing and using herbs magically. We will also talk about preserving and storing herbs so you have them when you need them. Included will be making fresh incense, poultices, salves, baths, pouches, sachets and other techniques.
The workshop will include formularies, receipts and practical advice. We will also have hands on demonstrations and projects.
A supply list will be provided prior to the workshop
